No Bull! Pittsburgh downs No. 10 South Florida

Cfootball Betting Lines

10/02/2008 - Tampa, FL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - LeSean McCoy ran for 142 yards and a pair of touchdowns, including the go-ahead score with 4:43 remaining in the fourth quarter, boosting Pittsburgh to a 26-21 upset of 10th-ranked South Florida.

McCoy, who carried the ball 28 times, frustrated the Bulls by making defenders miss tackles several times, and helped give the Panthers (4-1, 2-0 Big East) their fourth straight victory after a season-opening loss to Bowling Green.

Bill Stull completed 16-of-27 passes for 228 yards with a score for the Panthers, who have beaten the last three ranked teams they've played.

Matt Grothe connected on 11-of-21 passes for 129 yards with a TD and was picked off once. He also ran for a score, but the Bulls (5-1, 0-1) faltered defensively late in the game. Mike Ford had 14 rushes for 73 yards.

South Florida drove from its own 14 to the end zone, going ahead 21-20 following Grothe's 22-yard TD pass to Jessie Hester with 5:57 left. Ford had 55 yards rushing during the drive, which had just one pass, the scrambling connection from Grothe to Hester in the right side of the end zone.

Pittsburgh needed just three plays to go ahead for good. Stull found Oderick Turner for a 38-yard gain over the middle, and then McCoy used a brilliant shake move to get by a defender on a sweep to the left for 19 yards. McCoy then cut back and powered into the end zone from three yards out.

The Panthers failed on the two-point conversion, but consecutive sacks of Grothe forced the Bulls to punt with 3 1/2 minutes left.

McCoy ran 12 yards on a 3rd-and-9 draw play for a first down, eating up much of the remaining time. The Panthers punted, leaving USF with the ball at its own 28 with 22 seconds left.

Grothe scrambled eight yards and then completed a pass for 15 more to Dontavia Bogan near midfield. Grothe's prayer pass on the final play fell incomplete near the goal line.

The Bulls struck first with Quenton Washington blocking a Dave Brytus punt, and Charlton Sinclair scooped up the ball and rumbled 27 yards to the end zone with 8:07 left in the first quarter.

Stull came back with a 52-yard bomb for a score to freshman wide receiver Jonathan Baldwin less than three minutes later, and the Panthers came up big on special teams early in the second. Maikon Bonani's 42-yard field goal attempt was blocked by Aaron Berry, but Pitt gave the ball back on the next play as McCoy fumbled.

McCoy scored on a six-yard run with 4:59 left in the half, breaking an ankle tackle before surging to the left corner to give the Panthers a 14-7 lead. Conor Lee tacked on a 35-yard field goal for a 10-point difference with 22 seconds left in the half. That final drive was assisted by a pass interference penalty on USF on a 3rd-and-13 play.

Grothe scored on a one-yard plunge with 9:27 left in the third quarter.

The Panthers got the ball at their own four following a punt late in the third, and drove all the way to the USF 14 before Lee nailed a 31-yard field goal with 9:40 remaining for a 20-14 difference.

Dallas Cowboys 15-1 Super Bowl Odds With Romo, Owens Concerns

Will he or won't he?  Now that the Dallas Cowboys have a new head coach in Wade Phillips, the big question will be: Does Terrell Owens stay with the team.

Jerry Jones continues to suggest that Terrell Owens will remain with the team.

"I've said that he's back, he's here, he's under contract," Jones said. "In the interviews I've just been through (to hire a new coach), it was very clear to me how highly he's thought of and how much of an impact he had on our offensive success."

Just to be sure though, Terrell Owens cleared out his locker and removed his name plate.

Terrell Owens was among the Cowboys most productive players this past season, catching 85 passes for 1,180 yards and a league-best 13 touchdowns.

But T.O. is due a $3 million roster bonus in June, then a $5 million salary this season. Cutting him before then would save a lot of money and headaches.

Aside from the questions surrounding Terrell Owens, the oddsmakers at MySportsbook.com have concerns over starting quarterback Tony Romo's state of mind and whether he will remain a starting quarterback.  It is also not known how players will adjust to new head coach, Wade Phillips.

Here are the football odds as seen at MySportsbook.com and subject to change after February 10, 2007 if not locked in prior to that date.

Big 12 Conference betting odds

Work left to do: Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Kansas State

Texas joins Texas A&M and Kansas as locks after getting league win No. 11. Texas Tech greatly helped its own hopes and crippled OK State's with the two-point win Saturday. Is K-State the last reasonable hopeful? Could be an elimination match in Stillwater on Tuesday, at least for the Cowboys.

Work left to do:

Texas Tech [18-11 (7-7), RPI: 44, SOS: 12] A critical two-point win over OK State leaves the Red Raiders with Baylor and at Iowa State left. Get both and the Red Raiders likely are good to go. Get one and there could be some interesting comparisons with a K-State team that could finish two or three games "ahead" of them in the standings but doesn't have any of the quality wins Texas Tech has. Not a lot in nonconference play (against Arkansas in Little Rock being the best win, by far) to lean on.

Oklahoma State [18-9 (5-8), RPI: 50, SOS: 35] Still without a road win, the Cowboys now need to win two on the road just to get to .500 in conference play. It's hard to recall a team (OK, other than Clemson) falling so precipitously from lock status to almost certainly out of the NCAAs at this point. There are wins to be had in the last three, including a very big home game against K-State on Tuesday, but this team is reeling. Can you tell the pressure to win is getting to them with the way the final possession played out at Texas Tech? There are some good nonconference performances to lean on, specifically beating Missouri State and Syracuse on neutral floors and Pitt in OK City, but if the Pokes don't right this very, very soon, that won't be enough.

Kansas State [20-9 (9-5), RPI: 56, SOS: 96] It pays to be in the Big 12 North. The nine league wins are Colorado (twice), Missouri (twice), Iowa State (twice), Baylor, Nebraska and (a good one against) Texas. That helps explain the middling computer profile. The win over USC is nice, but the nonconference leaves a lot to be desired. The game at OK State in Stillwater on Tuesday is huge, as it could KO the Cowboys and leave K-State with a home date against Oklahoma with which to work.
